Jaime Estrada, MD

Founder and Board Chair - AYAFSA

Dr. Jaime Estrada received his MD degree from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo in Mexico. He then completed a residence in pediatrics at the Cardinal Glennon Hospital for Children in St. Louis Missouri, followed by a 3-year clinical and research fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Estrada was the first fellow in this program to earn a MS degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston during the fellowship program.
Dr. Estrada then held an academic position as assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Pediatrics at the South Florida School of Medicine in Tampa, Florida for the following 9 years. He then moved to San Antonio in 1992 and spend the following 25 years working in pediatric hematology and oncology, first in private practice and then as part of Methodist Physicians Practice for the last 11 years prior to his retirement from active clinical practice at the end of 2017.
Dr. Estrada served as medical director of the pediatric hematology and oncology program at the practice and was one of the founders of the Texas Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Conference that rotates yearly between San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston since 2010.
In early 2019, Dr. Estrada founded AYA (adolescents and young adults) Foundation San Antonio, an advocacy organization that supports adolescents and young adults with cancer. Dr. Estrada also serves as the Chair of the ACS HPV Vaccination Task Force since early 2019. The goal of this task force is to improve the HPV vaccination rates in our community and in our State.
